"If you want your child to be smart tell them stories, if you want your child to be brilliant tell them more stories" - Albert Einstein
Helping prepare children for 21st century learning
The Book Swap Initiative will place books back into the centre of social settings. Through African stories written by African authors; African children will once again see themselves as the heroes and heroines of the worlds in which they inhabit.
They will be proud of their heritage and able to take ownership of their own stories.
We aim to preserve and grow African culture and the love of books.

"Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you've fed him for a lifetime."
The Book Swap Foundation’s goal is to give children the resources and skills they need to succeed now, so that they will be able to build for themselves, a better tomorrow.

We envision not only promoting education, but also promoting knowledge, wisdom and understanding. We value the things in life that are not always quantifiable -like the wonder and miracles that can happen when our imagination allows us to believe that there can be more out of life that they might see around them. We know that stories teach children many things they will not learn in classrooms or in textbooks.

When a child is able to read different stories told by native authors who weave inspiration with their words, we create an individual who believes they too can create wonderful things to contribute to their communities
Our vision is also to spread the spirit of sharing.
We want children to understand that everyone benefits when we share. We hope that setting this example will sow the seeds of caring and community in hearts and minds of our children.

Our Mission
“The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.”
― Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Preparing African children for the world through the wonder of storytelling; by providing them with an abundant supply of culturally relevant stories.

Our Vision
We know that children who read for pleasure are more likely to excel in school and life. Therefore, our goal is to provide children with access to hundreds of storybooks for free.

We envision creating the basis for a generation of well-educated people who are able to, not only provide for themselves, but are able to contribute to the improvement of their country.

The Book Swap foundation will also help children understand the value of sharing. We believe the children taking part in this initiative will appreciate the importance of sharing opportunities, resources and profits in order to bring about the global change we all wish to see.

We want to ensure that children have the resources they need to succeed in life.

While the rest of the world, and the well-resourced elite schools are generally seeing advancements in literacy, maths, personalized learning, coding and robotics, a large number of African children are trailing behind.
There are vast amounts of children still struggling with the basic issues of literacy and a large number of children out of school. Providing resources for children will work towards a solution to the current levels of poverty in Africa.
Our Solution

300 children in a location will be given 300 different books and encouraged to swap the books weekly at a locally established book swapping spot. We aim to establish 3000 book swapping spots. With this effort, we will deliver books to 900,000 children who will each have the possibility of reading 300 books.
